The Alzheimers New Zealand Charitable Trust supports emerging researchers including, but not limited to, health professionals and academic researchers. We beleive that quality dementia research will lead to better diagnosis, improved treatment, better management, and the identification of risk facts.

Since 2009 the Trust has awarded grants annually funding dementia medical and social research projects. In 2014 the Trust agreed to be the Foundation Sponsor for the establishment of a network of Dementia Research Clinics throughout New Zealand. These clinics will investigate and trial novel treatments for Alzheimer's patients in the very early stages of the disease.

Throughout the world someone is diagnosed with dementia every 3.2 seconds - here in New Zealand 7 people are diagnosed every day with dementia. The Trust continues in its role to ensure issues that concern people with dementia and their families are a research priority. Since 2009 we have annually distributed in total 17 grants for medical and/or social dementia research projects and plan to continue to do so. As a foundation sponsor for a network of Dementia Prevention Research clinics throughout New Zealand we are pleased that 3 clinics are now up and running - Auckland, Dunedin and Christchurch.
