Round the Bays for Hope

In September 2019 my husband Sam and I lost our daughter, Hope. She was born sleeping at 24 weeks.

Sands is a parent-led volunteer non-profit organisation that supports families who have experienced baby and infant loss.

Sands Wellington-Hutt Valley has provided us with a lot of quiet care and support with its donated goods at the hospital. We used one of their hats to dress Hope in, and a basket to lay her in, with some special memories, for her to be cremated.

In the 24 hours after having Hope, we stayed in the Pohutukawa room with her at Wellington Hospital funded by Sands and other groups, where our families could visit and spend some time with Hope before we had to say goodbye. This room was a sanctuary for us, we were so well cared for in our time there.

Sands also hosts monthly group support meetings, and support through email and phone.

We want to raise these funds to both thank Sands Wellington-Hutt Valley, but to also help ensure they can continue to provide this invaluable support for grieving parents.
