From an email from friends that we met in Samoa the week before the quake: "We felt the earthquake. It was very strong, but we didn't think to run until the water started to recede. We ran for the car but as I backed out the wave was on us and we went for a pretty wild ride. Our fale collapsed in the first wave with us as did other buildings so we were lucky to be in the car. When the water started to suck back out the car wedged on building materials and we were able to jump out and run." It must have been terrifying.

I was sleeping in the fale in the photo a week before the tsunami. Man, I feel for them. I wish I could do more. http://www.samoalivenews.com/images/stories/tsunami%204/coconut%20beach%20.jpg
