Heather's Head Shave for Canteen

February 1st 2013 my mum passed away from bowel cancer. She had cancer for a few years before it took her life and in memory of 4 years without her i'm going to shave my head.

I miss her greatly but luckily enough in mid 2016 I met a friend who introduced me to Canterbury's Canteen offspring group. Since joining that group i've had group and personal help that has allowed me to talk to other youth going through the same or similar experiences as what i've been going through. Through doing this it has shown me that i'm not alone and there are people out there who are ready and want to help you.

When you're 16 years old and you lose your mum it is rough. 4 years later and being 20 it is just as rough, even more rough to be honest because there are more and more moments that she's missing. You'll wake up at 3am to tears because she's in your dream or one day you'll see the back of someone and it looks exactly like her.

Losing someone is hard but i'm grateful for the ongoing support from friends and family.

I know financially we're all in very different places, but if you could put forward as much as you're comfortable with it would mean so much. Canteen has given me a psychologist, a group of young people to hang out with, offered an awesome space to hang out in and an amazing local support from an awesome team!
