GOAL REACHED!!!! Send Kim to Let's Test Oz

  • Target almost reached!

      26 July 2014

If I can get to Let's Test Oz I'm now planning on taking 3.5 days off work instead of 5 days, a quick way to reduce the target amount and make this goal more achievable! (I've asked the site admins to reduce the target goal when they're back in on Monday, to reflect this change - any donations received in excess of requirements will be donated to Per Scholas). I can't believe how close we're getting and in such a short time too. If you haven't had a chance to read it yet, please check out this post by Colin Cherry: http://itesting.com.au/2014/07/24/how-a-test-community-became-a-family/ The revised overall total amount required is now $4,450 (down from $5,200). With $2,000 already raised on this site now, and people promising pledges for August which total $2,060 (!!) that leaves $390 to raise :-0 That's less than 10% of the total!! Sorry for all the numbers, it just helps me get my head around the idea that I might actually be going to this conference! Woohoo! Thank you

We have almost reached 60% already - this is amazing! Some additional very generous people have pledged to donate money in August. As a result I've reduced the total amount for now, so that I don't raise more money than I need in the meantime. For those who have already helped so much, current efforts are focussed on asking for anyone to donate $10 if they can spare it. I'm also auctioning off random objects from our house on TradeMe - every little bit helps :) Better yet, I'm trying to ask the @AirNZFairy to fly me there for free! Your help on this would be much appreciated Twitter folk :) Some of you have been submitting website feedback and defects to @FlyAirNZ today via twitter, that's got to be worth something to the AirNZFairy! I started working at AirNZ as a contractor today. I'm hoping to be eligible for some large staff discount on flights in case the fairy doesn't grant my wish and I don't raise the target amount of money. I'm still looking into it - I was a bit busy getting up to speed on my new project today... Fingers crossed!

What a ride! I've received a fwe direct direct donations and pledges for contributions in August, and I've asked the Givealittle admins to downgrade the total goal as a result, to reflect the remaining total to be raised. From tomorrow the total goal will be $3140, and I'll be 50% of the way there! Including the private\anonymous donations, that's 70% of my goal already! I've been asked if I'm staying at the conference on the Sunday and Wednesday nights. First I'd like to make sure I can get there. Then I'll either sleep on the floor in someone's room, find a backpacker's place down the street, put the accommodation on my credit card, or stay in Sydney with family. I have plenty of options, which is why it's not included in my total. In other news, I've been invited to join the Let's Test Oz organising committee! Stay tuned for more news on that later this week.

As of tonight I've unbelievably met 25%+ of my goal, and actually over 30% including pending pledges! A question was raised about World Vision regarding evangelism, prompting me to switch the $100 perk to Oxfam NZ instead. Particularly their work with children's education in the Pacific Islands, in keeping with the original 'Sponsor a child' theme. I've also approached the Let's Test Oz conference organisers with some suggestions on ways that I can assist at the conference, to help pay my way. Of course I'll happily help them regardless, but shhh, don't tell them that! Some people have had issues (i.e. found bugs) donating through this site. Testers, hey! :) I've accepted some donations through Paypal and added those donations to this site myself, for full transparency towards the total. And I have a spreadsheet of all donations to ensure I can meet my promises around shout outs and paying the money forward to charities. As part of saying thankyou to everyone who is helping me, I'd like you to know that I'm taking your donations very seriously. If I don't meet my goal, EVERY cent - not just every dollar, because some donations are not in whole dollar amounts ;) - will be donated to Per Scholas. Thankyou again everyone for your support, donations and feedback!
