Kaivolution Food Rescue

$1,170 of $28,000 goal
Given by 16 generous donors in around 4 months

Kaivolution needs support to rescue food from donors, save it from the landfill and redistribute it to those in need.

Waikato

Our first Kaivolution van has maxed out and we have just raised enough money to purchase a 2nd van. To ensure that we can rescue all the good food that is available before it goes to the landfill we need support to pay for overheads and running costs. We managed to rescue over 60,000 kilos of food in our first year of operations. Food donations are coming in thick and fast, and are likely to increase in the spring when there is an abundance of delicious Waikato fruits and vegetables. Lots of food will be available for rescue right before the holiday period so we need support to cover our running costs. All the food we collect is redistributed to those in need. It makes no sense to throw good food away just because we don't have the capacity to collect it! Rescuing food that is "good enough to eat but not good enough to sell" is not only good for our environment, but also good for those in need. Help us do the right thing and reduce waste to landfill and feed those in need.

Kaivolution Food Rescue Service (Waikato Environment Centre)'s involvement (page creator)

The Waikato Environment Centre coordinates Kaivolution - the largest food rescue service in the Waikato. Simon (pictured) is Kaivolution chief van driver and we have an awesome group of volunteers who help us sort the food into boxes for collection.

About us

Kaivolution is a food rescue service operated by the Waikato Environment Centre. Kaivolution rescues food "good enough to eat but not good enough to sell" from over 40 food organisations and redistributes this to over 60 charities from around the Waikato including charities in Hamilton, Huntly, Morrinsville, Tokoroa, Raglan, Te Kuiti and Thames. Since it's inception in October 2014, Kaivolution has rescued 200 tonnes of food, with our monthly food rescue equating to 31,428 meals in our community per month.
