Help support Kaydee’s (Bug’s) long journey to recovery from a bacterial blood, heart and brain infection, and craniotomy brain surgery.
Waikato, Hauraki District
We’re raising money to support 17-year-old Hauraki Plains girl, Kaydee – or ‘Bug’ as she is affectionately known - as she recovers from brain and heart infections, and intensive surgeries.
Bug usually works full-time, alongside her whānau and friends, at the meatworks. She’s social and bubbly and loves animals, especially her dog, Sky and kitten Ivy.
At the start of March, Bug became quickly unwell and an ambulance took her to Waikato Hospital where she was diagnosed with a bacterial infection in her blood that had caused endocarditis, a life-threatening infection of the heart valves.
The bacteria in her heart had then travelled up into her brain causing abscesses and mini strokes.
Bug spent two weeks in Waikato Hospital recovering from the infections when she unexpectedly had a major bleed and clot in the brain and had to undergo emergency brain surgery and craniotomy.
Bug is currently in HDU with a long road ahead. Recovery will take months, and she’s still at risk of more brain bleeds and infections.
When she is stable, she’ll need further brain surgery – and possibly heart surgery.
Her mum, Ricki -Lee and her dad, Matt, have been off work to stay by her side. We’re raising money to help cover their living expenses during this time. We know it’s an expensive time to be alive, and everyone is doing it tough, but every little bit helps.
