First Kiwi to Paddle the Cook Strait

$14,000 of $30,000 goal
Given by 160 generous donors in 11 weeks

Support Britt as she becomes the first Kiwi to cross the Cook Strait on a rescue board to raise money for the Nelson Surf Lifesaving Club.

Nelson / Tasman

Britt Spencer, a volunteer surf lifesaver and search & rescue squad member will be the first New Zealander to cross the treacherous Cook Strait on a prone paddleboard.

Britt will paddle between the north and south islands, taking on one of the most brutal passages known for exceptionally strong tidal flows, roaring winds, cold water, and rather curious great white sharks on a rescue board with only her arms to propel herself.

Point to point, the paddle is 22km but with strong tides, Britt could cover up to 30km and be battling it out on the water anywhere between 4-10 hours in the ultimate test of endurance and resilience.

The paddle is in aid of the Nelson Surf Lifesaving Club, aiming to raise awareness and funds for the service keeping everyone at one of New Zealand's busiest beaches safe.

Use of funds

Donations will go directly to the Nelson Surf Lifesaving Club, and will be distributed to provide financial support for the Search & Rescue squad, athletes representing the club and bettering their skills, and the clubhouse development fund.
