Sharing: Not only do we encourage kids/students to grow & share this with other families and community less fortunate but also collect unwanted fruit & veges from school neighborhoods for kids to eat during the day and take home.
Recycling: 90,000 tonnes of garden waste is dumped in Auckland’s waste centre every year. Most of which can be used to nourish fruit, vegetables and herb gardens. In the low-Decile primary schools, 48 percent of the primary school kids and 64 percent of secondary students came to school without any lunch at all. (Campbell Live, 2015).
Dream: One girl's dream to combine used coffee grinds from coffee drinking culture & feed kids is becoming a reality. Miss Braxtyn Hunt (young student) sat one day at a coffee shop and noticed the endless consumption of coffee being made. She also noticed the waste i.e. used coffee grinds.
Light bulb moment: What if I could recycle the coffee grinds as fertilizer to grow herbs, fruit, vegetables and kids can shared at school? What if kids were educated to grow at home or anywhere?
If I could box this up I can give it to every student to start growing. What about the wasted fruit in backyards that never get used?
