This month is September which is all about raising funds for Cerebral Palsy.
Recently my friend Natalie's son Nathan who is 11 year's old has received funding for a mobility scooter, but they are $1050 shy of the total needed, immediately I thought as a community if we all gave just a little we would be able to give this awesome wee dude the freedom and independence that you and I have every day.
This is a bit of information from Nathan's physiotherapist: 'Nathan has been involved in DHB, school and private physiotherapy throughout his lifetime. His mother Natt (an Early Intervention Teacher) has continued to find best options to support Nathan in his physical and educational development. As Nathan grows and matures the most restricting activity for Nathan is being part of normal family, community and school activities. Part of Nathan’s physical issues are his weakness and fatigue leaving him well behind his peers and family in terms of being able to keep up within the community. This requires Natt to accompany and assist Nathan in most outings. At school in the playground Nathan is pushed in his wheelchair by the other children. He finds it very difficult to push his own chair having some weakness in his trunk and upper limbs'
If we are lucky enough to raise over $1050 Nathan's family would like the balance to go to Kidney Kids.
I went to school with Nathan's mum Natalie and we reconnected many years later when our children attended primary school together. When I heard about the shortfall of the funding I wanted to do something to help them. One of my favorite sayings is 'Be the reason someone smiles today' this will make Nathan and his gorgeous family smile for years to come.
