Young Leaders Projects 2010

$555 donated
Given by 8 generous donors in around 3 months

A youth leadership project which aims to harness the energy and motivation of active and committed young people in refugee-background commu

Nationwide

The young leaders will be doing stuff like starting basketball teams, running music and dance workshops, mother tounge classes and putting on plays (ideas still in development!). But they're going to need a bit of cash to get started. They are already running fundraisers in Wellington, but we wanted to support them even just to get $20 more...

About us

There are three main parts to our work:

- We run capacity building programmes for refugee communities

- We work with government and organisations to ensure that they effectively address the issues of refugee resettlement

- We research and advocate for the concerns of refugee communities

Fundraising a-go-go  18 May 2010

Hi wonderful supporters! We had our fundraising and budgeting work shop this weekend, which went really well, thanks to the hard work of the young leaders, the support of the mentors, and the expertise of VUW Foundation Director Tricia Walbridge. They all have drafts of fundraising plans now, so should be getting started shortly on raising money for their amazing plans. We had some news from a few more young leaders about their projects too? - the Zimbabwean youth want to run a 'helping project' - they're just trying to narrow down who they want to help; the Rwandan girls want to start a netball team; and the Afghan girls are working on it, but Sonia is taking a survey at the moment of what they want the most. There are a few photos from the last couple of workshops ""http://www.flickr.com/photos/48976754@N08/sets/72157623899178922/"">HERE... We've raised $475 so far (a couple of cash donations have come in), but we probably need about $1000 for it to make a difference to the Young Leaders Projects - if you know anyone who could contribute, please pass on the link! Thanks so much, Tessa and the whole crew involved in the Young Leaders Project
