being the place where creative people find the tools, networks, opportunities and inspiration to grow their big ideas into viable careers, projects and businesses.
From an electronic newsletter sent some years ago, The Big Idea has grown into a strong on-line community that helps itself. Used to running on the smell of an oily rag, we have demonstrated social enterprise and community development in action to become one of NZ's best web communities.

Kia ora . . . Hello there . . .
Thanks to all who have participated in the fundraising drive so far. We've raised $3575 as of 27 June - great! A warm thank you in particular to Margaret and Timon for their generous contribution to The Big Idea's first on-line auction. Bids on their work close on Sunday 5 July. We're set to continue on-line auctions as a key part of our fundraising ongoing, so if you would like to support The Big Idea in this way by contributing a work for auction, we would love to hear from you :)
Although we still have some way to go to meet our current fundraising target, we're buoyed by and appreciative of the feedback and contribution we've had so far.
Matariki is an especially apt time to acknowledge all we've learned from the year past; it is also a very special time to celebrate the many positive and inspiring ways that communities come together to nurture and sustain their future.
With best wishes . . . Elisabeth Vaneveld

Kia ora koutou . . . Hello everyone . . .
A very BIG thank you to the 143 people and organisations in The Big Idea community who responded to our call for help. You have raised $2587.50 towards a $20,000 short-fall that we are working hard to clear. For those of you who have yet to contribute, every little bit helps and for the price of a coffee, you join a growing group of us who are working hard to get The Big Idea out of a tight spot.
It's great to see that so many people are contributing content and engaged with what's happening on The Big Idea. There are many different ways that people can be involved to keep our growing community strong. Giving a little is one of those . .
You can also join us at the movies on Sunday 21 Jun at the Bridgeway in Northcote Auckland. Be there at 7.30 pm. You can see more about it here.

Hello everyone . . . Kia ora koutou . . .
As a community, there's been a tremendous response to our call for help and 24 hours in, $2084 has been donated. On behalf of the entire team at The Big Idea, a very big thank you to each and everyone of you. Your contribution is hugely appreciated.
We've also had an offer of an art-work for an on-line auction and we're looking into that - great idea!
Once again, a very warm thank you . . . I'll keep you posted as we go along . . .
With best wishes . . . Elisabeth

2009 has been a tough financial year for The Big Idea. With very little public funding, we built a whole new website with great new tools. We also continued to deliver the content and services that the creative community loves and needs.
As with many projects no matter how tightly you manage them, there are cost overruns and we now need financial support from the community to help meet those costs.
We’re working hard to clear an internal debt of $20,000 that is the shortfall on the cost of rebuilding The Big Idea.
We’d like to start the new financial year on 1 July with the debt cleared. Can you help us to do that?
We reckon that if everyone who uses The Big Idea contributed the price of a coffee before 30 June, we’d get there.
