Lower Hutt Community Foodbank - Helping people in need since 1986

Wellington

Since 1986, Lower Hutt Foodbank has supported local individuals and whānau experiencing hardship through the provision of free emergency food parcels.

We are a community-led Foodbank supported by a small staff team, volunteer Committee, and around 40 volunteers who help across the organisation each week. On average, the Foodbank distributes more than 18,000 food parcels each year to people across the Lower Hutt community.

Alongside food support, we also connect people with other community organisations and services where additional support may be needed. Demand for food support continues to grow, and we rely heavily on the generosity of our community to continue this work. Donations help us purchase essential food items, fresh produce, and household basics for those who need support.

If you would like to support Lower Hutt Foodbank, you can:

donate food items to Foodbank collection bins at participating Lower Hutt supermarkets

make a financial contribution through our Givealittle page

organise a workplace, school, or community food drive

volunteer your time or skills

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
