About Us:
What we're doing to make a difference:
We're inspiring, empowering and enabling volunteers around the world to raise money to help children in developing countries to break free from poverty. At The GVN Foundation we believe in the idea of 'local solutions to local problems' and we therefore work with local community organizations in each country we support.
Our track record:
Over the past 5 years, we have raised over half a million dollars for projects around the world. GVN Foundation has made grants to our partners to assist with running costs, education, healthcare, construction and emergency relief.

"Tafadhali tusaidie kuokoa maisha" - "Please help us save lives" - John Mongare, Clinic Chairman Ushirika Medical Clinic is located in Kibera, Nairobi, Kenya. Kibera is one of the largest slums in the world and has over 800,000 residents. Ushirika Medical Clinic is the main clinic for the communities of Kibera.
Kilimanjaro Calendar to help Kibera Clinic
In January 2010, we climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro with the Global Volunteer Network, in order to raise funds to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in Africa. We visited the projects that we had climbed for and realized how much more is needed. We wanted our amazing experience to further help those in need.
Helping IDPs Help Themselves
Grant Us a Chance aims for helping Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) help themselves through small grants dedicated to starting or expanding income-generating activities, such as raising chickens and weaving baskets. By supporting self-help groups started by IDPs, you are granting them a chance to restore their lives.
Walk for Vietnam: A journey across MN
By completing a statewide Walk For Vietnam, we hope to inspire others to get involved with GVN and support the children living in GVN-Vietnam orphanages. We will fundraise through newspaper articles, emails, and social networking websites. We plan to visit the major cities along our route to advertise and seek support for the local government.
Tam Ky Orphanage
I spent January volunteering in the Tam Ky Orphanage in Central Vietnam. During that time I was privileged to look after babies and young children aged from 0 - 12 years who had either been abandoned or came from families who could not afford to care them. I’m fundraising to help make life better for these children.
Emergency Relief - Flooding in Peru
Torrential rains caused massive mudslides in the Sacred Valley of Peru. The community of Lamay, where Peruvian Hearts feeds hundreds of schoolchildren each day, has been damaged from flooding. Crops have been destroyed, and homes have collapsed. There is an immediate need for food and blankets to help the thousands of homeless and those with limited resources.
Haiti - Earthquake Emergency Relief
A HUGE thank-you to all of our amazing donors who have helped to raise over $20,000 USD for our Haiti Emergency Relief efforts! Funds from our first appeal are currently being allocated. We will continue to update our donors on the progress. Please note; our Give A Little pages have been updated to show funds raised in USD.
Ecuador Fund - La Hesperia
La Hesperia Biological Station & Reserve recently completed La Hesperia Children Nursery! They believe in three interdependent and mutually reinforcing pillars of sustainable development: environmental protection, economic development and social development.
Ugandan Children's Fund - The Real Ugnda
The Real Uganda works with disadvantaged youth in, and around, Kampala, Uganda.
Nepali Children's Fund - Antardristi
Antardristi Nepal is a project run by women with an aim to offer support to sexually abused survivors. Antardristi is the first and only program of its kind in the Kathmandu Valley.
Uganda Sponsorship Program - Hope for Africa
The primary school has been established to educate local children free of charge and the most destitute children are housed and fed. The children receive training in academics, life skills, and modern commercial agriculture.
Vietnam Sponsorship Program
GVN Vietnam currently works with an assortment of placements assisting underprivileged babies and children in several villages throughout Vietnam. Many children in these programs suffer from malnutrition, birth defects, mental illness, and physical handicaps, and are not presently receiving adequate nutritional support.
Ecuador Fund - Jatun Sacha
Jatun Sacha work with a variety of reserves throughout Ecuador to assist with a range of projects such as reforestation, habitat reconstruction, and agroforestry activities utilizing native species.
Vietnamese Children's Fund
Our partner in Vietnam works with disadvantaged children in orphanages in Da Nang, Tam Ky and Tuy Hoa in Central and South Central Vietnam.
Ugandan Children's Fund - CETU
Children’s Education Trust Uganda (CETU) works with disadvantaged children in Buloba, Uganda.
Tanzania Children's Fund
Our partner in Tanzania focuses on breaking the poverty cycle in a particular slum region in Tanzania through education. They aim to give children priority to over-come their individual hurdles to gain a better start in life.
South African Children's Fund
Our partner works with hundreds of children young adults and families in rural South Africa and surrounding communities to facilitate education projects and community development activities.
Romanian Children's Fund
The Tanner Mission has been providing shelter and love to abandoned children and young adults for the past 20 years. Within the last two years, however, economic pressures have caused the cost of living to almost double, forcing the Tanner Mission to face the very real possibility of having to close the program.
Philippines Children's Fund
Our partner in the Philippines seeks to help Filipino communities better their quality of life. They are based in Quezon City and work both in the marginalized communities of the capital Metro Manila and in Romblon, one of the Philippines’ poorest provinces.
Peruvian Children's Fund
Our partner works with an orphanage outside of Cusco that looks after about 17 orphaned girls and boys. Assist GVN Foundation as we work to provide these children with a new, model orphanage and continued support for their education and medical care.
Nepali Children's Fund - VSN
VSN works with hundreds of children in various orphanages in and around Kathmandu.
Kenyan Children's Fund
Our partner works with over 60 schools and orphanages in and around Nairobi. Assist GVN Foundation as we work to provide funding to needy children at these projects as well as in the Kibera slum.
Ethiopian Children's Fund
Our partner in Ethiopia is a non-profit organization founded by a diverse group of Ethiopian youth working to provide support to the underprivileged in urban and rural Ethiopia. Initiatives include education, basic provisions for street kids and HIV prevention, care and support.
Kenya Sponsorship Program - Shelter Childrens Home
The Shelter Children's home in the Masailand outside of Nairobi is home to over 100 children. The children who call Shelter home are either orphans or come from families who are too poor to support them.
Kenya Sponsorship Program - Cheryl's Home
Cheryl's Children's Home in Nairobi, Kenya, is home to over 40 children. Many of the children are orphans, while others come from families too poor to care for them.
Nepal Sponsorship Program - BFCH
The Brighter Futures Children's Home is home to 13 children and is located 25 km outside of Nepal's capital city of Kathmandu. It was established in 2004 as a way of offering a stable and supportive living environment for orphans, street children, and children from families who are too poverty stricken to support them.
Nepal Sponsorship Program - Antardristi
Antardristi Nepal is a project run by women to offer support to sexually abused survivors. Antardristi is the first and only program of its kind in the Kathmandu Valley.
Peru Sponsorship Program - Anta Orphanage
The orphanage we work with in Peru cares for disadvantaged children in the village of Anta. The girls in this program are either orphans or children of families who are too poverty stricken to care for them
Uganda Sponsorship Program - Springs of Hope
The goal of the Springs of Hope High School, located in the village of Buloba outside of Kampala, is to offer disadvantaged youth and orphans access to secondary education - an opportunity only available to less than 16 percent of Ugandan youth.

Emergency Relief - Philippines
Typhoon Ketsana has rampaged through the Philippines, killing over 330 people and forcing millions to flee their homes. Officials have reported that 2.3 million people had their homes flooded, and 400,000 were seeking help in relief centers.
Emergency Relief - Samoa
Disaster struck when a powerful 8.0-magnitude undersea quake unleashed tsunamis on the vulnerable Pacific islands. Four tsunami waves up to six metres high roared ashore in Samoa, travelling up to 1.6km inland - tossing cars into trees, razing buildings and sweeping its victims back out to sea.
Emergency Relief - Vietnam
Vietnam was hit by Typhoon Ketsana when it blew across the South China Sea from the Philippines and unleashed a month’s worth of rain in just 12 hours. It has left over 100 people dead and 170 000 people have reportedly been evacuated.
