I'm Shaving My Head for Shauna, my sister in law who was recently diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Wellington
I, Cathy Collett support my Sister in Law and Good Friend Shauna who has just been diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
In doing so, I will shave my hair off on the 10th of March 2017.
I appeal to you all for Sponsorship. All proceeds will go to - Look Good, Feel Better - Which is very worthy of it's cause. This organisation provides Wigs, Makeup and Transport to people suffering from this illness.
I do this not only for Shauna, but in remembrance for all those I have known and lost their own battle against Cancer. We all think it won't happen to us, but it can and it has.
For Shauna, her battle has just begun with her Chemo just started. She has a long year ahead.
So, Please Give A Little and help a great organisation be able to provide more
Thankyou All
Cathy Collett
Shauna’s Story - Written by Shauna McGuinn
Those words that no-one wants to hear….you have cancer. Yet another diagnosis in my life with no cause or cure. Originally diagnosed with Crohn’s disease at 15, I now have triple negative breast cancer at 42 that has made it to my lymph nodes. In the words of the specialist, 2017 is going to be a shit year.
10-20% of all breast cancers are classified as triple negative which means the cells are not driven by oestrogen, progesterone or HER2. Triple negative effects younger women and is more aggressive than other forms of breast cancer. Triple negative is treated with chemotherapy, surgery and radiation therapy and does not respond to hormonal treatments.
I have encountered a number of women who have been through a similar diagnosis to my own and survived, so I have hope. However I would implore women of all ages to not wait until they come of breast screening age, but to carry out self-checks and where possible the required tests earlier to ensure this horrible disease does not take unnecessary lives.
I hope that by sharing some of my story that this will create an awareness that you can get breast cancer at an early age, it is not a prerequisite that breast cancer runs in your family and most of all you are not alone in this journey.
On March 10th 2017, I will be shaving all my hair off for Shauna in Support of her illness. All proceeds to be donated to 'Look Good, Feel Better' as requested by Shauna.
