Instead of going out and celebrating my birthday, let's give back to our community and help those in need!
Auckland
My birthday is going to look slightly different this year, as I will not have the opportunity to go out and celebrate, go to a nice restaurant or spend that time with my friends and extended family. I am truly blessed however, to be in a safe, warm home, with plenty of food available and a family that love and support me. Other people are not so lucky.
VisionWest Community Trust is a community group based in West Auckland that provides emergency food, community housing, home healthcare and counselling services, and are considered an essential service this lockdown period. During this time I am more grateful than ever, and am wanting to make a difference to those in need. VisionWest exists to end homelessness, reduce poverty, and ensure young people have hope for the future, even more prevalent during the lockdown.
During my last year of high school I suffered from depression, and required counselling from VisionWest to help me get through. Having this memory, and knowing the difference they make in our community, I want those who would otherwise celebrate with me to spend their $9 per beer/wine (or $35 bottle if you're feeling good!) on a donation for VisionWest. A group that helped me in my time of need, and that are helping others survive as we speak!
Every $1 is considered a generous donation, and all contributes to a greater cause!
My birthday is during the lockdown period, and instead of going out and celebrating, I am asking my friends and family to donate to Vision West Community Trust! A group that helped me in my time of need!
