Children of Prisoners Week 24-28 September. Not My Crime - Still My Sentence
Nationwide
Not My Crime. Still My Sentence.
What happens to me when my parent goes to prison?
In any given day there are an estimated 20,000 children in New Zealand with at least one parent in prison. A staggering number. And largely ignored.
Our aim is to assist these children in getting the support services needed to help prevent intergenerational offending and imprisonment. Children need a safe place to live, care and protection during their parent's absence, comfort and affection, food and access to healthcare, an education, their public status and private self-image preserved and an opportunity to reach their full potential.
