    Thank you for your enquiry.

    It is difficult to provide you with an accurate fee estimate without meeting you first. However, to give you an indication of surgery fees,

    a procedure to remove the breast tissue, such as "bilateral subcutaneous mastectomies" would be estimated at $12,500 - $16,000. It is a time dependent procedure.

    Once you have met with Dr Lofts we will be able to provide you with a more accurate fee estimate,

    inclusive of the surgeon, hospital and anaesthetist fees.

    ""The type of surgery and the cost depends on your breast size and the approach that is chosen. If you have small breasts and areola then the procedure may take 2 hours and cost perhaps a total of $12,000 but if they are larger and more skin excision is required it may take 3 to 4 hours and the cost could be closer to $20,000. I cannot give you a definite quote because of this and I have no control over what the anaesthetist or hospital charges - as this is billed by the minute. If you wish to pursue this make an appointment through my Breast Associates practice and I could see and assess you and discuss the options. This visit would cost about $280. Wayne Jones""

    Good news, I've received a quote from a surgeon down in Wellington and it said: ""Female to male mastectomy surgery for gender reassignment costs $11,500-$13,000 and this total fee includes all the surgical, anaesthetic, and hospital fees plus your post-op appointments. The surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and requires a 1 night stay in hospital. You would need about 7-10 days away from driving and 1-3 weeks off work depending on your occupation. "" Also! I've been contacted by a reporter doing a story about Trans* surgeries in New Zealand and she's gonna call me later on so we can have a chat about it.
