My mum is an amazing inspiring woman who needs a little help to get back on her feet after some tricky health issues lately.
Bay of Plenty
Melinda is almost 50 but she has had enough health issues to last a lifetime. Growing up I have watched her battle and fight many different health issues and always come out a stronger, more level headed woman than she already was but this time we need a little bit of a helping hand...
Here's a brief history of what's being going down... When she was 22 she was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes while she was training for the Rotorua Marathon, so ever since I have been around, I've always known her to inject herself 5 times a day and constantly test her blood sugars. This has ultimately resulted in the side effect of her having depression as diabetes causes this. In her mid 40's our streak of bad luck hit... in 2012 my parents sold their business they had shares in which wasn't doing as well as hoped for and they began to work for other people. Sadly my mum started to work for a horrible employer who day in a day out told her she was useless, made her feel like she wasn't valued in her job and her self worth rapidly deteriorated. One day while I was sleeping she nearly made a horrible decision about her life that I'm so glad did not happen (as I caught her and stopped her from doing it.) As a family we helped her find her bearings again and manage the depression better. Then in 2014 her husband (and my dad), was diagnosed with Thyroid Cancer, fortunately we managed to fight this too. Surely our bad streak was over right? Sadly no, after making some decisions in late 2014 that thought would better my parents lives in the job and financial sector, the made the move from New Plymouth to Tauranga where things seemed more prosperous, only in early 2015 my Dad had a mild stroke which prevented him from driving and working for 6 weeks and then my mum was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.
Now I know there are so many people that are worse off than my family, but this streak of bad luck has really taken its toll on my parents. They went from having a business and a house to having health issues that resulted in job losses, having to sell their house and being on the benefit. I have never ever seen either of them so down. My Dad is trying to find new work day in and day out. Even my mum is - although she is still going through treatment at the moment and isn't expected to be able to work until September! They have sold so many of their possessions trying to live day to day. Even I have. They are my best friends and I don't know what else to do. We have each other and that's more than some, but together from the government they barely get enough to cover to live.
I am starting a new job soon and moving away from being by my mums side so I can send some funds their way when I can- but I need a little bit more help. I'm not asking for thousands of dollars, I would just really love to fundraise enough so they can catch up on their rent pay a couple of bills and buy some food. They have been eating tined soup way too much lately. Any tiny bit would help them and mean the absolute world to me and my family.
My name is Natalie and I just want to be there for my mum is much as possible in the best way I can be. Life has dealt my parents some pretty tough cards recently and I would deeply appreciate some help in turning their lives around <3
Thank you 29 July 2015
