Let's get Mel home to New Zealand

I’ve been home from hospital 5 days now and have finally felt up to reading the overwhelming amount of kind, caring and supportive messages on the ‘Give a little’ page my friend set up. I don’t know quite what to say other than thank you from the bottom of my heart! I experienced the scariest of times so far in my hospital life and will make very good use of your kind donations to get home amongst all the cancellations due to Covid as well as with getting fit to fly for my journey back to NZ. I am on the mend and the surgery has restored my legs to such a standard that They haven’t felt this good in over two years! I have a wee way to go yet to recover but each day is a bit easier- especially now that I can read all the messages! Aroha (love) is all we all need at times like this and please know I’m being cared for here by my UK family with great amounts of it! ❤️☺️🙏

Just letting everyone know Mel's surgery went well. Very long. She is now into the recovery phase and then we can bring her home. Thank you everyone for your generosity.

Surgery of my c-spine tomorrow (Wednesday UK TIME) : three part op- back, front and back of neck in one day and an all day long op. Let’s hope my surgeon has a good rest before. Big risks but without it, I’d lose use of legs altogether so have no choice as at moment cannot walk. I’m not brave and this is terrifying. Thanks for all the amazing support from near and far. I’m grateful and know I’ll need help after this. Just give me time as I may not have a voice or use of limbs for a bit. I’m lucky to have people I can say truly love me and I know they know I do right back - my rocks x❤️💔🙏😻

Hi Mel, my sister in law had a very similar operation - yes, she was very scared and went through a lot. Now she is 2" taller, can enjoy walking, driving and everyday life. Her Xrays are amazing, like a steel frame supporting her spine. Sue, is so happy she had the operation. Wishing you well. kind regards, Hazel
