Social Justice and Occupational Therapy skills are needed in South East Asia and this family is getting ready to volunteer long-term.

West Coast

This Kiwi family are getting ready to leave the west coast and travel to South East Asia where they will be working in rehabilitation and social justice organisations to support those in need.

Sharon will be providing rehabilitation services to children with disabilities and their families in a location where there is minimal access to health and rehabilitation. Sharon is an Occupational Therapist, and she will be working in a paediatric hospital. She will support children with disabilities and their families to participate more fully in their daily life activities and their communities. Her work will be focused on both therapy provision and training of local staff to assist in the development of a sustainable rehabilitation service.

Shaun has experience in construction work in New Zealand and abroad. He enjoys thinking on his feet and problem solving in locations where resources are limited. He will be volunteering with an environmental and social justice organisation. The organisation aims to support villagers’ efforts to move from low value crops with high social and environmental cost, towards growing crops that provide a sustainable income to support the health of the environment and the local community.
