Hi to all James' friends, Many of you will have already heard that sadly James passed away peacefully, and without pain early on Saturday morning. He bravely fought his battle with cancer to the very end and we are so proud of his strength. His funeral will be in his beloved shed here at our home on Wednesday 19 February at 11.30am. Thank you for your donations - we will use them to cover the costs of the care that he received. I have lost my wonderful husband and soulmate but know that he will be at peace now. Jeni and James' family

People are asking how I'm doing... I'm not too bad, thanks! Been having chemotherapy which was a hideous ordeal the first round but I just finished second round and it was much more bearable. The drug I'm fundraising for, ipilimumab, can only be prescribed as ""2nd line"" treatment, so I have to have chemo as ""first line."" Dr said 10-15% chance chemo will do anything. And just in case you still labour under the illusion that medical care is free here in Nz, I have to pay for the chemo drugs myself at $1000 a go! Yes, it's because once melanoma gets into you it's secondary cancer. The only chemo that has any chance at all of working, is funded for primary brain cancer only. I think they just want melanoma patients to die as quickly and cheaply as possible. I refuse!

Hi Everyone. You have ended up here because you know me, James Finlayson, perhaps you've worked with me, or have somehow passed through my life. Maybe you are from the Gliding Community, or Wintec where I spent 10 years as an Academic. Or maybe you are a family friend helping out the Finlayson and Hou families. Or perhaps you are a friend of Zirka Circus, the business owned by my lovely partner Jeni, and managed jointly by me and her. So, I just want to say, please don't be daunted by the very large amount of money we are trying to raise. Every little bit helps, and we are hoping that we know enough people for it to all add up. $10 or $10,000 is all relevant. We know we can borrow the balance left after fundraising. However, I am very reluctant to go into this with a financial burden on my family, especially as we have already pretty much cleaned out all the coffers so there's nothing much to fall back on. On that note, I feel I should add that while Ipilimumab is a major breakthrough in Melanoma treatment, and if successful has the potential to give me 10 years plus, the stats say it is effective in 50% of patients, not everyone. So what we have here is a game of roulette, where we put $210,000 on Red, and spin the wheel... We have never considered not paying, from my point of view, these are great odds! There are other new drugs on the way, and we are sure that a 10 year window will be all I need to survive and raise raise our 2 little boys, Orson and Otis to be wonderful young men, just like their big brother Galileo. Galileo is now 18, has done so well at school, and has his first job while working out what to study at Uni. Anyway, that's the story in a nutshell. If you want to know more, get in touch, I'm happy to have a chat about it. Thanks again James, Jeni, Galileo, Orson, and Otis
