Help Hunua locals raise funds to fight the proposed managed fill on Jones Rd, to keep Auckland's water supply clean and local roads safe.
Hunua, Auckland
The air is fresh, the roads are quiet, and birds greet you at every turn. Today, not only is our local lifestyle under threat, but so is your road safety, and the waterways which feed directly into Auckland's water supply.
A proposal to establish a managed fill site on Jones Road in Hunua has raised serious concerns across our community — about our roads, water, environment, and safety. Under the RMA resource consent process, HAPVRA is supporting local residents.
Locals have already contributed generously in both time and money, but we need your support to raise further funds to pay for the experts needed to represent us at the upcoming hearing: a planner, RMA lawyer, and technical specialists.
A managed fill can accept large volumes of soil, rock, and other materials over many years — and it’s not guaranteed to stay clean. Material taken from urban earthworks can include contaminants. The proposed site connects directly with local waterways, an important catchment area for Auckland's water supply. The applicant plans to bring in hundreds of heavy vehicles every week, navigating narrow rural roads that were never designed for industrial traffic.
Community spirit alone isn’t enough in a consent process that involves technical planning reviews. To be taken seriously, the community needs expert planners, technical specialists, and legal support to prepare formal evidence for the upcoming hearing and ensure our voices aren’t drowned out by corporate interests.
The support we need from RMA experts and specialists (a planner, RMA lawyer, and technical specialists) isn't cheap, but without it, our concerns risk being dismissed. Every dollar helps ensure that the future of Hunua is decided by the people who live here — not by external developers with deep pockets.
