Bradley's goal to play Powerchair Football in Sydney Australia, in October 2015
Auckland
My name is Bradley Jenkin, I am a 17 year old who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy which is a gradual muscle wasting condition, which has left me permanently in a power wheelchair and eventually, sadly I will lose all muscle function.
I am involved in Powerchair Football and belong to Auckland Powerchair Football Club. I really love playing this sport, as it is something that I can actually compete in and feel like I am part of a team.
I have been accepted to play in the Australian nationals in Sydney in October 2015. This has been a long time goal of mine and I am very excited that I have been given this opportunity. But unfortunately for me to be able to travel overseas takes alot of planning and also funding. As I am unable to sit in a normal economy seat on the plane, due to having to be hoisted onto to aeroplane. I am going to have to fly business class which will cost a lot more than an economy seat. For me to also be able to go I will need to take caregivers with me and in this case it will be my parents as I need 24 hour care. I will also need to hire equipment while I am over in Sydney including a hoist and a shower chair which again is an expense that we have to incur.
The total cost for me to make my dream come true is around $10,000 which includes registration, transfers, flights, accommodation, meals, and hospital equipment hireage, and transportation over there ( I cant just get into a rental car like most)
Please if you are able to help me make my dream come true by supporting me I would be extremely grateful. Thankyou so much for taking the time to read my story.
