The Hector's dolphin is one of the rarest marine dolphins in the world, and is classified as endangered. WWF ranks the survival of these precious dolphins a national conservation emergency. Go to www.wwf.org.nz for more information about our work, including on the Hector's dolphin.
WWF is fully supporting Aescleah Hawkins to take action to save the threatened Hector's dolphin and spread the message of the urgent need to protect them. Aescleah plans to bring together a team of 12 walkers, including herself, aiming to raise $36,000 for WWF's conservation of the species. Support Aescleah in her Walk for Hector's.

Hi. I'm Aescleah and I want to know why the Hector's dolphin isn't being protected more. 25 years ago there were 30,000 Hector's dolphins around the South Island - in 2009, the best estimate is that there are now less than 7,500. We know why they are dying, because of pollution and being caught in fishing nets, but why aren't we protecting them from these problems? So I decided to help WWF by doing a walk from Lyttleton to Akaroa so that more people could understand that this is a big problem - we might lose our dolphins - they are so gorgeous, we can't let that happen. Did you know New Zealand would be first country in the world to let a marine dolphin become extinct? Help me to help save the Hector's dolphin
Hey, I'm Nathan, and I decided to support Aescleah Hawkins by walking with her on the Walk for Hectors on 4, 5 and 6 of March 2010 and help raise awareness for the protection of the endangered Hector's dolphin. Hectors dolphins are threatened with extinction, they are the smallest dolphins in the world. They are only found in New Zealand. Thirty years ago, (that’s 1980) there were over 26,000, now there are only about 7,000. To save them from extinction we need to help the WWF increase their work in educating people, informing them of the effects of pollution, drop net fishing and outboard motors on the dolphins, but this takes finances which is where you come in sponsoring me on the walk. I would be really grateful and I think the dolphins would too if you will donate either directly to me or via this site.
Dad and I love the outdoors and this beautiful country which we live. It is such a great opportunity that we are able to take apart in the Walk for Hector's dolphins and wonderful that Dad and I can both take part.
We have a responsibility to care for Canterbury's resources and achieve a sustainable environment.
Hello, i'm Ella Soryl. I'm 15 years old, and im here supporting Aescleah Hawkins on her quest to save hectors dolphins. I am a vegetarian, and love all animals. I find it heartbreaking to see many species such as the Hectors dolphin facing extinction. With your sponsorship, as i join Aescleah on this walk, we can help save them. Please sponser me, thanks(:

Support Aescleah and her friends by making a $25 donation and joining a public walk from Barnett Park in Redcliffs, Christchurch on 6 March at 10am. This 60-minute loop track has spectacular views of the area, including habitat of the Hector's dolphin.
and make a donation of $25 (children free to walk with parents) here - all funds raised support Aescleah's Walk for Hector's. The number of walkers is strictly limited. The track is good quality with gradual incline and decline. WWF will contact you after you have registered on instructions to make your donation.
Tuatara Tours is supporting Aescleah Hawkins' inspiring Walk from Christchurch to Akaroa (the 42km Tuatara Akaroa Walk) for Hector's to raise awareness for the protection of the precious Hector's dolphin from extinction. All funds go to WWF's Stop Their Extinction campaign.
Black Cat Cruises is supporting Aescleah (Ashley) Hawkins' inspiring Walk for Hector's to help raise awareness of the need to protect the precious Hector's dolphin from extinction.
I want to do something to help WWF in New Zealand. I live in Christchurch, and everyone knows and loves the Hector's dolphin, which lives around the South Island and in Akaroa. But most don't realise that these gorgeous dolphins are threatened with extinction - I decided to do something about it.

Environment Canterbury is supporting Aescleah Hawkins, the Avonside High School student who has walked for Hector’s to raise awareness and much needed funding for increased protection of the Hector’s dolphin. Councillors Jane Demeter and Eugene Sage and Resilience Unit Manager Bill Simpson joined Aescleah on the 3-day walk from Lyttleton to Akaroa on 4, 5 and 6 March, 2010.

We love the Hector's dolphin which lives around NZ, however they are nearly extinct - we have decided to join Aescleah and the rest of the crew who are doing the Walk For Hector's. We will be making metal Hector's Dophin keyrings to sell. The money raised, will go towards the Walk For Hector's.
I live in Christchurch and attend Burnside HS. Everyone knows and loves the Hector's dolphins but most people don't realise that these unique dolphins are threatened with extinction - I decided to do something about it and am helping Aescleah with the Walk for Hector's in March.
I have decided to support Aescleah and her audacious project. I have lived in Christchurch and the West Coast and know that this is a controversial issue definitely worth dedicating time, energy and resources towards resolving.
I recently learnt about Aescleah's Walk for Hector's and decided to support it by becoming one of the 12 walkers. The Hector's dolphin is threatened with extinction - we must save these amazing animals so please join us to promote this event and make your donations towards the campaign.
