Whilst some of the information is not quite correct it's all good coverage :)

Amber is doing extremely well. We had more testing last week and she is just blowing everyone away. She is hearing almost as well with her new ear as she is with her old one and we are all confident that if her old one broke she would still be able to function perfectly with her new one! Go Amber!!! She is such a star.

  • News article in the local paper

      14 January 2015

Amber is continuing to do way better than expected with her second implant. It's not quite as good as her first yet but we expect within a few months it will be :) This is a huge relief as if one breaks down she will still have full hearing from one ear.

Today there is a story about Amber in the Record newspaper.

Page 7 of this weeks . (And the date is wrong on the link it def is 2015)

  • Update for 21/10/2014

      21 October 2014

Tomorrow is the big day for Amber. We are both feeling rather anxious but I know she is in the very best hands. We have to be at hospital about 1230 and her surgery won't be until around 4pm or later. I'll post updates as I can. Please keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks x x

  • Update for 18/09/2014

      18 September 2014

We've decided to take out a loan to cover most of the cost of the surgery as I just don't have the time for fundraising. We will still need to raise at least $10000 but we'll find that somewhere. Very scary taking a loan for such a large amount but it is important that Amber gets her hearing as soon as possible. Donations are still gratefully accepted

  • Update for 20/07/2014

      20 July 2014

Next Sunday 27th July Amber is doing a skydive thanks to SmileDial, MakingTrax and Skydiving Kiwis. We'd like as many people as possible to pledge a donation when she has completed the jump. Other news is that we have received confirmation that the government will not fund anything at all for her second CI Because she is being implanted after July 1st. IF she had been implanted before July 1st they would have covered all her ongoing care, spares and replacements. We think this is very unfair to penalise the handful of kids over 6 who are being implanted after July 1st. If you agree you can write to Tony Ryall's (MP) office.

  • Update for 17/07/2014

      17 July 2014

A couple of exciting updates today. Our dear friend Katie from the USA has raised over $400 USD from a fundraiser she has done with her friends at school. Thanks so much Katie. AND On Sunday 27th July Amber is going to jump out of a plane! She was selected from nominations on the SmileDial facebook page and is very excited to have this opportunity. Those that know Amber know what an adrenaline junkie she is. So here's a challenge: Who would like to make a pledge to donate $xx (any amount is welcomes) for her completing this skydive thanks to SmileDial, Making Trax and Skydiving Kiwis. If anyone would like to come along and watch they are welcome. Message me for the details

  • Update for 27/06/2014

      27 June 2014

The pressure is on. We've seen the surgeon and the clinic and they are all set to make an appointment as soon as we have the funds. I have today got pre-approval that our insurance will pay for the surgery so we have 60 days before that runs out. Nothing like a little bit of pressure.

  • Update for 11/06/2014

      11 June 2014

Specialist appointment went well. Discussed all the pros and cons and we still feel we need to do it for Amber. First steps are some hearing testing next week to see if there is any level of hearing in that ear (we are pretty sure there is some) and see if we can get a hearing aid that Amber can tolerate (if they think it's worth while), then a big push on the fundraising.

  • Update for 06/05/2014

      6 May 2014

So it's looks like we are only going to have to raise between 26 and $30000 instead of the original 40-50000. Will hopefully have a final figure soon :) Medical Insurance are going to pay for the surgery part, and hopefully the new govt announcement is going to cover habilitation, spares, repairs etc :)
